A Favorite Holiday

April 1st, aka April Fools Day. It's about a week or so into spring and the weather here in Minnesota is starting to warm up nicely. I saw my first robin this morning, returned for the summer. And I look forward to summer activities, bike riding, shooting hoops, and grilling food. But the weather is not my reason for my affection for this day, and the promise of future outdoor fun isn't either. I like this day because of it's title, April Fools Day. It reminds me of the Bible verse that says, " A fool in his heart says there is no God." Although I never identified myself as an atheist, I did live as though God does not exist. I did what I wanted, where I wanted, when I wanted. I lived for me. The thing about pride is the letter i is right in the middle of it. No thought for others, of God, or the afterlife. If I wanted to do something wrong, I didn't consider whether it was right or wrong. My only concern was whether or not I could get away with it. I lived like a fool. Thank God that has changed. Jesus changed my heart, my innermost being, so now I am free from the results of doing wrong, both in this life and the next. Doing wrong is sin according to the Bible. And we all will be held accountable for our sins. That is unless we repent, turn from our sins, apologise to God for sinning, and put our trust in Jesus for our forgiveness and salvation. That's the good news, Jesus came to earth, lived as a sinless man, and willingly died on a cross so we can be forgiven and granted eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. So don't live like fool, receive the gift that God so graciously offers, and enter into life eternal.
